Construction Podcast 22: How to profit from aging in place services
Remodeler Dan Bawden has been an aging-in-place specialist for many years, and he talks about how contractors can profit from aging in place services and how to market those home remodeling services. The lawyer and contractor mentions a number of easy, profitable home upgrades — from stylized grab bars in the bathroom to tubular skylights for better lighting to wider doorways through the home. Some of his recommended adjustments to profit from aging in place remodeling are changing doorknobs to lever handles and lowering light switches and make homes more accessible to young children and senior citizens alike. Bawden, who is the developer of the National Association of Home Builders’ Aging in Place certification, also explains how become a certified aging-in-place specialist through the coursework offered by the NAHB and AARP.
