The 2013 Contractor of the Year for the Chicago Hispanic American Construction Industry Association (HACIA) is Art Jimenez, president and CEO of Alliance Cos., a major construction company that specializes in all types of carpentry, drywall and acoustics and lists some of the biggest contractors in the greater Chicago area as clients.
The Alliance philosophy is to create a culture of excellence that permeates every level of the organization, with an emphasis on field operations. It’s a model that obviously works, as the company has grown throughout the recession.
In 2012, Alliance ranked 293 on the top 500 list of Hispanic businesses; in 2011 Jimenez was ranked #3 on Hispanic Business’ Fastest Growing Hispanic Co. in the United States; and last year he was nominated for the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year award.
Alliance is 100 percent union. “We are committed to excellence through union craftsmanship in every project we do,” says Jimenez.
He stands by his success. “We have delivered results time and time again,” he says. “Having worked on many prestigious, large-scale jobs throughout Chicago, we are intimately connected to the commercial construction market and have a proven track record of success. We are committed to fabricating a construction solution tailored to any specification.”

Alliance services include installing drywall, engineered exterior and light gauge interior metal framing, and stucco systems.

The company recently started a door supply company that promises to be a strong area of growth. “We offer solutions to our clients”, says Jimenez. “By combining furnishing and installing of the door, we alleviate a headache for our customers and the response has been overwhelmingly positive.”
When it comes to marketing your construction business, HACIA has been invaluable in the marketing it provides,” he says. “HACIA has a lot of bright people working in the Chicago construction market. It’s a beacon for contractors seeking leadership. They impart hope to future contractors looking to succeed. It’s a tremendous organization.”
