Five projects to help boost business

For another project that helps lower heating, cooling and lighting costs, install energy-efficient windows and doors.
From energy-efficient upgrades to improving curb appeal, here are five projects to help boost business.
Increase attic insulation
Nearly 90 percent of homes are under-insulated, which leads to energy waste and higher utility bills. While upgrading insulation is often done in winter, the project saves money year-round and it’a a great way to boost business.
Attic space creates the biggest risk for energy loss and, in turn, the largest opportunity to save energy. Before suggesting the project, check the depth of existing insulation compared to floor joists. If insulation is at or below the same height as the joists, more insulation is needed.
Educate your clients about R-value so they can better understand the value of the project. Higher R-value means a space is better insulated and more efficient. Explaining basic concepts like this can strengthen your relationship with your client.
Replace windows and doors to boost business
For another project that helps lower heating, cooling and lighting costs, install energy-efficient windows and doors. Energy-efficient windows add value while improving energy efficiency.
A standard double-pane window allows approximately 75 percent of the sun’s heat into the home. Install Energy Star windows, which meet two standards: the U-value and the Solar Heat Gain Coefficient. U-value measures a window unit’s resistance to heat loss, and the Solar Heat Gain Coefficient tracks the amount of heat that enters a home through the glass.
Energy-efficient doors are usually made from fiberglass or painted steel, and sealed using a magnetic strip. Like windows, they lock in cool air, eliminate winter drafts and include a glass coating that filters out UV rays.
Refresh exterior paint
A fresh coat of exterior paint enhances curb appeal, increases home value, extends siding lifespan and protects homes from harsh winters. There are services and products to help even the most experienced Pro save time and money when starting a painting project:
- Help clients choose a color by tapping into the technology of The Home Depot’s Project Color App. The app takes out the guesswork by allowing you to digitally “paint” colors before you get started.
- Join the Pro Xtra Loyalty Program to increase efficiency and save money when tackling summer projects. One exclusive benefit is Pro Xtra Paint Rewards, which saves up to 20 percent on paints, stains and primers.
- Spend less time at the store by using Paint Will Call to order large quantities over the phone that will be mixed and ready when you arrive or – depending on the quantity – delivered directly to the jobsite.
- Encourage clients to invest in high-quality paint, such as Behr Marquee, to minimize call backs and inspire referrals.
Boost business by updating outdoor living spaces
Suggest a few of the following projects to update your client’s outdoor space and increase your summer business:
- Check for damaged deck boards that need to be replaced or repaired, and install new ones to easily improve the deck’s appearance.
- Bring outdoor spaces back to life by staining or painting. If your client wants to resurface without replacing deck boards, look for a thicker resurfacing liquid like Behr DeckOver.
- Add pavers to create or revamp patios and walkways. Concrete pavers are a popular summer project with low material costs, minimum maintenance and long lifespan.
- Help clients get more use from their outdoor living space with exterior lighting. Choose from various low-voltage outdoor fixtures in deck rails, steps, flower beds and pathways to upgrade the space.
- Install a new railing system as a finishing touch to the deck. Find a railing system that matches your client’s personal taste with materials such as vinyl, wood or aluminum.
Clean and repair gutters
Summer is a great time to clean gutters and address any repairs. Damaged gutters lead to leaks, pest infestation or a ruined landscape, so encourage clients to have their gutters checked at least twice a year.
When tackling these summer projects, take advantage of Pro Xtra to help your business thrive. In addition to discounts on paint, the free membership program provides other business tools like purchase tracking and Text2Confirm, a feature that allows you to quickly authorize purchases via text message.
