Complete electrical solutions for renovations

Domenico Santilli, 30-year electrical contractor

Domenico (Dom) Santilli , Power Control LLC

Power Control is the electrical contracting business owned by Domenico Santilli, 30-year electrical contractor and company president. The company provides complete electrical solutions  for remodels and has two locations and six employees. And at his company website homepage there are vacancies listed for two more jobs under the Employment tab.

Based in Milwaukee, Wisc., Power Control (www.powercontrol.com) has served the Milwaukee area for 11 years. Three years ago, Santilli opened a second location in Charlotte, N.C., where he is now based, although he commutes monthly between the two locations.

The business is growing with both commercial construction contractors and developers turning to his company for installation of complete electrical solutions. Power Control also installs electrical services for remodels and renovations, and is on-call with several property management companies in case they need emergency electrical work.

For the last six years, Power Control has been the go-to place for solar technology and the company’s website has examples of the kind of work it can do, both for residential and business applications. In fact, Charlotte was chosen for the second location as, Santilli says, it has among the best solar incentives in the country. Power Control also handles television, telephone and data installation.

Santilli’s philosophy? Why would you want to hire two different companies when one company can do it all?

“We can do many different types of wiring, and often at more competitive prices than companies that specialize in one type of wiring,” he says. “Plus, our technicians are specially trained in troubleshooting electrical problems. If they run into something they can’t identify, the company’s in-house consultant steps in with his years of troubleshooting experience.

Santilli gives high marks to the Hispanic Contractors Association of the Carolinas (HCAC) for help in getting his business in North Carolina up and running. “In the early stages, HCAC got us certified as a Minority Contractor. That opened doors for us as contracts would specify a percentage of bids had to be let to minorities,” he says. “The new customers were happy with our work and called us back with more jobs. Also, the networking opportunities available at HCAC meetings allowed us to meet general contractors and get involved in larger projects.”

“The training available through the HCAC helped us acquire new skills, including reading plans, estimating, safety and OSHA compliance,” says Santilli.

Power Control has weathered the recession years well. “We did OK – good actually,” says Santilli. “We had contracts in place before the downturn so we worked for customers with housing tax credits.”

The key to Santilli’s success? “We perform on time and we do quality work.”
