What’s in a Home Remodeler’s toolbox

Fabio F. Molano  //  Owner/President //  F&J Renovations

When home remodeler Fabio Molano’s friend asked him to build a doghouse for her poodles, he wanted to make it something she would always remember. So, he went all out. The poodles were the only ones on the block with a house featuring a front porch, chimney and windows.

Fabio F. Molano – Owner/President F&J Renovations

That was back in 1980, when there were no synthetic materials to use for doghouse build construction. It wasn’t long before Molano’s friend – and her dogs – became the envy of every pet owner in town. “After she bragged about the doghouse, everyone wanted one, too,” Molano says. “Next, they asked if I could paint their house, install a fence or repair their front porch. Little by little, my reputation as a construction Pro grew.”

Today, Molano serves as president of the company he founded, F&J Renovations, which performs specialties such as carpentry, painting and roofing. And, if you ask Molano, he’ll be honest about his career path: “I don’t feel like I have worked a day in my whole life, because I absolutely love what I do.”

Molano learned the trade from his father-in-law, Henry Richardson, who took him under his wing and not only taught him the carpentry trade, but the importance of hard work. He also credits Steve Norris, an expert in the tile trade, as a strong influence in his professional acumen.

For people wanting to break into the Pro construction business, Molano’s advice is relatively straightforward. “Educate yourself every day on your trade, continually communicate with your clients, and be honest and truthful with yourself and others.”

For Fabio F. Molano, these tools are essentials in every home remodeler’s toolbox:
