Toyota Tundra and Nissan Titan for 2016
The Toyota Tundra has grown into a true full-size pickup. Redone for the 2014 model year, it was further improved for 2015, including standard V-8 power across the board, new TRD Pro model with special off-road suspension and optional spray-in bed liner.
The line includes the SR, SR5, the upper level Limited, and two premium grades, the Platinum and 1794 Edition that feature a western theme with saddle brown premium leather-trimmed seating. Like the Platinum, the 1794 Edition includes such luxuries as heated and ventilated front seats, and premium audio with navigation.
Options for the Toyota Tundra
The Toyota Tundra comes as a two-door regular cab, four-door double cab, and the big four-door CrewMax. Tundra regular cab models come exclusively with an 8.1-foot bed. Double cab models are offered in both 6.5-foot standard bed and long-bed configurations and include rear under-seat storage on the SR5 and Limited grades. The CrewMax comes with a 5.5-foot bed.
For 2016, The Toyota Tundra continues with the 4.6L i-Force V-8 with 310 hp and 327 lb-ft of torque. The 5.7L i-Force V-8 gets 381 hp and 401 lb-ft of torque. The 5.7L has gasoline and Flex Fuel variants. Both V-8s come mated to a 6-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive, with 4WD optional.
With up to 10,500-lb. towing capacity (SAE J2807), it has Toyota’s advanced TripleTech frame. The Toyota Tundra’s Vehicle Stability Control integrates traction control and automatic limited-slip differential
The big introduction for the all-new Titan pickups was January with the diesel-powered Titan XD. Gasoline models were available mid-year. The XD features a new cab and the unique Cummins ISV-5 diesel. The 5.0L V-8 in the Titan gets the Turbo Diesel badging with the engine rated 310 hp and 555 lb-ft of torque. The truck entered production at the end of 2015.
The new Titan XD Crew Cab is the first of three cab configurations, two frame sizes and three power-train offerings, including 4×4 and five grade levels to be available in the full Titan lineup. The Titan XD is built on Nissan’s full-sized pickup platform.
Gasoline models have a lighter frame and are 14.7 inches shorter. They feature the 5.6L DOHC Endurance V-8 with ratings of 390 hp and 401 lb-ft of torque. Nissan has announced a V-6 will be available but offers no details yet. Titan offers a standard 5-speed automatic transmission and a maximum towing capacity of up to 9,500 pounds for King Cab and 9,400 pounds for Crew Cab.
Features of the 2016 XD include a rearview monitor with trailer guides and moving object detection and a trailer light check system that allows one-person hook-up. Also available are blind spot warning and front and rear Sonar system.
